These days Summerlin Centre Drive has one open lane in each direction, plus a dedicated left-turn lane at Hughes Park Drive. Hughes Park Drive East and West have one open lane each, with a single left-turn lane beside it. Red Rock Casino's north driveway is closed, and its south driveway is still open. Those are Clark County's posted conditions for October 11 through 24, 2026, and the restrictions stay in place around the clock. Crews only work part of the day. The county's sheet lists work hours of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but the lanes stay narrowed after the crews leave.
Most coverage of this work describes it as a freeway widening, and that's part of it. For Summerlin South, though, the change that matters more is happening on the street that's been squeezed. When the project is done, Summerlin Centre Drive will connect straight to the 215. Drivers from the southern villages won't have to use Charleston Boulevard to get on the freeway anymore. Right now, the street that will gain the new connection is the one giving up its lanes to build it.
What the finished project gives the southern villages
The county's official name for the work is the "CC 215 Beltway, Charleston Boulevard to Far Hills Avenue" project. Clark County Public Works runs a project page that links to construction notices, the phasing plan, monthly look-ahead updates, and the current lane restrictions. Las Vegas Paving won the $73.5 million contract. The county's notice puts the start date at Monday, June 1, 2026.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal's March preview described three changes that together set up the finished road:
- One more lane in each direction on the 215 between Charleston Boulevard and Far Hills Avenue.
- A new braided ramp that takes northbound 215 traffic to Charleston and crosses over Hughes Park Drive East.
- New ramps that let drivers on Summerlin Centre Drive get on the freeway directly, without using Charleston.
Clark County principal civil engineer Rahel Shibeshi told the Review-Journal that the ramps also work in the other direction. Drivers leaving the 215 will get direct access to Charleston. In practice, that pulls apart two streams of traffic that currently share the Charleston interchange. Drivers coming from Summerlin Centre get a dedicated way onto the freeway, while traffic exiting toward Charleston is carried over Hughes Park Drive East on the braided ramp, so the two movements cross without merging.
The public documents reviewed for this post don't spell out every ramp pair by direction. The county's conceptual drawings are mostly images with very little readable text. Until the county publishes something more detailed, the safe summary is the one Shibeshi gave: a direct freeway connection at Summerlin Centre, and a direct exit to Charleston.
Why the squeeze lands on Summerlin Centre Drive
Clark County's October 2026 look-ahead explains why Summerlin Centre Drive is so narrow right now. The list of work for the month includes grading and excavation, widening the Summerlin Centre bridge, two soil-nail walls, storm drain work, and electrical installation. The bridge being widened is the same bridge Summerlin South drivers are funneled across.
Here's how the October 11 to 24 restriction sheet lays it out:
| Location | Posted condition, Oct. 11–24, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Summerlin Centre Drive | 1 open lane each way, 1 dedicated left-turn lane at Hughes Park Drive |
| Hughes Park Drive East and West | 1 open lane, 1 dedicated left-turn lane |
| 215 northbound, Sahara to Far Hills | 3 open lanes |
| 215 southbound, Far Hills to Charleston | 3 open lanes |
| 215 northbound off-ramp | New lane reconfiguration |
| Red Rock Casino north driveway | Closed |
| Red Rock Casino south driveway | Open |
The freeway itself is still carrying three lanes in each direction through the work zone. The capacity loss is on the surface streets around Red Rock Casino and the edge of Downtown Summerlin. According to the county's construction notice, access to Red Rock is supposed to be maintained unless message boards on site say otherwise. As of the October sheet, that means the south driveway. The research turned up no separate parking or entrance advisory from Red Rock Resort or Downtown Summerlin, so the county's sheet and the boards on site are the guidance that exists.
The phase schedule
The county's phasing sheet breaks the work into five phases. Read in order, it shows that Hughes Park Drive East comes first and the southbound freeway comes last.
| Phase | Area | Window | Listed scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | Hughes Park Drive East | June 2026 – December 2026 | Temporary shoofly, storm drain, braided bridge, overhead signage |
| II | Hughes Park Drive West | September 2026 – June 2027 | Storm drain, ITS, roadway restoration, overhead signage |
| III | Northbound 215 | August 2026 – August 2027 | Storm drain, ITS, concrete widening, striping, overhead signage |
| IV | Southbound 215 | April 2027 – January 2028 | Storm drain, ITS, concrete widening, striping, overhead signage |
| V | Charleston Blvd overpass | August 2026 – March 2027 | Traffic signal modifications |
The same sheet gives a total duration of 600 calendar days. It says crews work weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and nights from Sunday at 9:00 p.m. through Friday at 5:00 a.m. It also says phasing and scope may change as the project goes on. That's a different set of hours from the 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. window on the October restriction sheet. The posted hours have already been adjusted at least once.
The finish date isn't settled either. The county's construction notice says February 2028. The county's project status report, updated September 1, 2026, estimates January 21, 2028. Both estimates are later than the 540-day schedule in the Review-Journal's March story and the roughly 18 months mentioned in 8 News Now's April preview. Those previews were written before work began.
December brings three things at once
Phase I is the Hughes Park Drive East braided bridge, and it's listed to end in December 2026. That's the same month the area picks up holiday traffic.
Enchant returns to the Las Vegas Ballpark from November 20 through December 27, 2026. The ballpark is at 1650 South Pavilion Center Drive, inside Downtown Summerlin. Enchant's ticket calendar lists these nights:
- Opening Night on Friday, November 20
- Family Photo Night Out on Sunday, November 22
- Friendsgiving on Wednesday, November 25
- Country Christmas with a line-dancing lesson on Wednesday, December 2
- Paws n Claus on Sunday, December 6
- Night of Honor on Thursday, December 10
December 6 is also the day the Red Rock Resort calendar lists two Matt Mathews shows, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. So two event crowds come into the corridor that Sunday, from opposite sides of the work zone.
The third December item is just north of here, on the separate $130 million 215 and Summerlin Parkway interchange project. In the Review-Journal's September 28 update, project manager Dan Erickson said about 58 percent of the work had been billed as of the end of August, slightly ahead of pace. He said the next big milestone is traffic moving onto the new ramp from westbound Summerlin Parkway to northbound 215.
"That should happen maybe November or December. Cars will be on the ultimate alignment. It's getting close."
Erickson told the Review-Journal that most of that project's remaining work is walls and a bridge outside of traffic. "This project shouldn't have any closures coming up anytime soon," he said. The interchange project is still scheduled to finish in spring 2028. The paths to its new pedestrian and bike bridges won't open until close to the end, because a lot of dirt still has to be moved.
Both projects are expected to wrap up within a few months of each other. Between now and then, two pieces may arrive this holiday season: the braided bridge over Hughes Park Drive East on the county's Phase I schedule, and the new Summerlin Parkway ramp on Erickson's tentative timeline. Both depend on schedules their own documents describe as subject to change.
Which details hold and which expire
The phase windows, the ramp design, and the two completion estimates are the planning-level facts. The lane-restriction sheets are short snapshots. The county posts a new one every two weeks, and as of today the posted sheets only run through October 24. No restriction schedule for November or December has been published. The one-lane setup on Summerlin Centre Drive and the closed north driveway at Red Rock Casino are accurate for this two-week window, and nothing published so far says what comes after it. The county also links a separate 24-hour detour route for high loads from the same project page, along with a 16-foot clearance note for Summerlin Centre Drive.
What the documents do settle is where this ends. In early 2028, Summerlin Centre Drive is set to become a freeway entrance for the southern villages, and Charleston will get its own exit. The two will be separated by a braided ramp now going up over Hughes Park Drive East. For more on how the area west of the 215 has been changing, our posts on Summerlin South and on Summerlin West's recent openings cover more of it.
If you're weighing a move in or out of Summerlin South while construction is on, the route to Charleston and the 215 is part of what buyers will be considering, and so is the 2028 finished road.
